Space Pirates Infinite space awaits you! Unknown planets are calling to you with treasures and adventures. Now you can find out what the life of a real space pirate is like, searching for hidden treasures and even fighting battles to get more loot. It’s worth taking the risk for the fantastic treasures, because their magic power can come in handy on your journey. But watch out, use them wisely! The game can be played with two difficulties: Simpler gameplay for young ones (4+): Preparations: Place the board in the middle of the table, and place the numbered die on the marked (bang) field. Everyone should pick a spaceship and a space pirate! Place your spaceships in the space harbor in the middle of the board, and place the space pirate in front of you. (In the 4+ version, they do not take part in the game, but they show you which space pirate you are.) Put the remaining pieces back in the box! Now place one treasure each on each of the planets, with the pictures facing down. Goal of the game: Collect as many treasures as possible. Playing the game: The youngest player goes first, then take turns clockwise! When it’s your turn, roll the die once so you can fly to another planet for a treasure. If you roll a color: The colors on the die mean different types of fuel. You can only reach a neighboring planet by a path that matches the color of the fuel that you rolled. If the die shows a flaming rock... ...then, sadly, you can not move from the planet, since it would be dangerous to leave because of the asteroid field. You have to wait until it’s your turn again. Sometimes, you may not be able to go on because of an asteroid field or because you got fuel of a color you can not leave the planet with. If this happens, you can use the magic power of one of your treasures you have acquired to move on. (see later) You can also use the magic power of one of your treasures if you can move on according to the die, but the planet where you would arrive is already empty, and you would rather go to a planet where there is still a treasure. After your turn comes the next player. TREASURES: As soon as you step on a planet with a treasure, the treasure you find there will be yours! Take a look at the other side of the treasure in secret, making sure the others don’t see it! Place it in front of you face down! Important! You can only use the magic power of each treasure once during the game. Place the treasures you have used up in front of you, face up, showing that you have already used them. Another space pirate can not win these from you in a battle! (see later) 1., Treasures with no magic power: Some of the coins have no magic power, but they will count as points at the end of the game! 2., Spaceship: This treasure can take you to any planet you want – whether there is a path leading there or not. If you have rolled an asteroid field, you CAN NOT counteract its effect with this treasure. Tip: For your destination, it’s wise to choose a planet where there are a lot of neighboring planets with treasures. Or to use it only at the end of the game, when there are only treasures left on planets that are far away from each other. 3., Colorful fuels: This treasure lets you choose a path of any color that starts from your planet, as this spell can transform your fuel. If you have rolled an asteroid field, you can not counteract its effect with this treasure either. 4., Flaming rock: This spell comes in handy if you can’t leave your planet because of an asteroid field, as this is the only treasure that has the power to avert danger! If you use its power, you can go in any direction you want. 5., Bang: This treasure has great power! If you use it in a battle, you win, even if your opponent threw a six! But be careful! Your opponent may have a bang treasure, too, if they use it in the battle as well then the battle will end in a tie. The used treasures lose their magic powers, both of you should place them back in front of you, facing up. BATTLE: If you have to step on a field that already has a spaceship on it, then (with respect to the space pirate tradition) you HAVE to battle! Take the numbered die from the bang field. The player who arrived last on the planet rolls the die first. If there are more of you on one planet then the last arriving player gets to choose who they want to battle. Whoever rolls a higher number wins the battle. The winner of the battle may choose one of the loser’s treasures. (Tip: This is why keeping the magic powers of your coins a secret is a good idea.) If the battling players roll the same number, then the battle ends in a tie, noone takes the other’s treasure. The end of the game: When there are no coins left on the planets. Count how many treasures each of you have! Whoever has the most coins, wins! Rules for older ones – with a bit more excitement (5+): The basic rules are the same as before. With the following amendments: In this game, the treasures you have already used are lost. After using them, you have to place these in a separate pile because they will not count as points at the end of the game. Tip: It’s worth picking up a new treasure even if it costs you one of your treasures! You won’t have more treasures than before, but the treasure you got won’t add to your opponent’s points. SUSPENSION BRIDGE: If you don’t want to lose points, you can use the suspension bridge instead of magic coins! In this case, you have to leave your spaceship on the planet, and only your space pirate can cross the bridge to get the treasure. Place your space pirate figure on the planet onto which you have crossed. You can only cross one suspension bridge at a time, and in the next round, instead of rolling the die, you have to return to your spaceship! (This basically means you skip a round, but you get a treasure anyway.) When you have returned to your spaceship, place your space pirate in front of you again until you need it again for another crossing. BATTLE: If you step on a planet where there is a spaceship whose owner has crossed a suspension bridge to another planet, then the battle can not take place! According to galactic laws, attacking unattended spaceships is prohibited! BUT if two space pirates without their spaceships meet on a planet, then they have to battle according to the basic rules. The end of the game: If there are no treasures left on the planets, count how many treasures each of you have! Whoever has the most (unused) treasures, wins! Contents of the game: 1 gameboard, 4 spaceships, 4, space pirates, 20 treasure coins, 2 dice
