Quick! Every town is full of strange people who sometimes travel to strange places. As a taxi driver, you are the first to find out where everyone is headed. Sometimes the detective goes to the fortune-teller or the judge visits the zoo. From your point of view it’s all the same, because you have to pay attention to the road! If you know the back roads, you will be the best taxi driver who collects the daily pay first, however adventurous the road may be! Family game for 2-6 players, from age 6, game time: approx. 30 mins Contents of the game: 1 game board, 6 taxis, 50 location cards, 36 passenger cards, 24 luck cards, 90 banknotes Short description of the game: As a taxi driver you are transporting passengers. You have to pick them up at one point in the town and take them to another. You get your fare depending on the traveled distance. The passengers usually give you a tip and you get a bit of good or bad luck on the way, too. The first player to collect 30 ushkas (USH), which is the town’s currency, wins. Preparations: Put the game board in the center of the table! Sort the banknotes by value and choose one player to act as Banker! He will be responsible for all payments and penalties during the game. The Banker’s first job is to give each player 3 ushkas starting money. Another player must act as Card Manager who will sort the location, passenger and luck cards into three separate decks and place them face downwards next to the board! Finally, each player should pick a taxi and place it on any road on the board, but don’t place it on a crosswalk! Playing the game: The Card Manager should turn three location cards face up and place them next to the board. The sign in the upper corner of the cards (fig. 2) helps to find the places where the first passengers are waiting for their taxi. The youngest player goes first. Take a look at the game board and choose the location card which is closest to your taxi. Important: the exact location is marked by the red dot next to the building! Place the card in front of you with its lighter side up! After this, the Card Manager should replace the drawn card from the deck, so the next player can also choose from three cards. (Make sure that there are always three location cards turned up on the table during the whole game!) When every player has their first pick-up point, the game begins! The youngest player moves his taxi towards the chosen location first. He can cross only one crosswalk in one turn and has to stop at the next one. He can also step on a place where another taxi is standing. Now, the next player takes his turn. When you have reached your pick-up point, the Card Manager should draw from the three decks for you: • one passenger card – which shows your passenger and the tip you will get. • one location card – which shows your destination. Place this card next to the one you already have, but the other way around: the darker side should be facing up! This way you won’t mix up the pick-up point and the destination. (fig. 2) • one luck card – which indicates what is going to happen during your trip. (You can find the description on the opposite page.) You have four cards in front of you which you have to keep until the end of the trip! You can only move in the next turn. While the other players are taking their turns, you can take a good look at the map and plan your route. At the destination: When you have arrived with your passenger to the destination, you have to calculate the fare. No matter by what route the taxi reaches its destination the fare is determined by counting the squares between the two points horizontally and vertically. Not diagonally! Each square is worth 1 ushka! (fig. 1) After you have calculated your fare, validate the bonus on the luck card! Finally, don’t forget to add the tip on the passenger card (or cards) to the amount. Example 1: You took the bubblegum guy from C2 to E4, you had extra luggage on your luck card. The distance is 3 squares horizontally and 2 vertically, so the fare is 5 ushkas. The extra luggage is worth 1 ushka, the guy didn’t give you a tip. Total: 5+1+0=6 ushkas. Example 2: You had a broken down bus on your luck card, so you transported 2 passengers, the musician and the film star from D4 to D2. The distance is 3 squares horizontally, so the fare is 3 ushkas which your passengers paid together. But they both gave you a tip: 1 and 2 ushkas respectively. Total: 3+1+2=6 ushkas. Example 3: You took the opera singer from C3 to E2, for a nighttime rate according to your luck card. The distance is 3 squares horizontally and 1 vertically, so the fare with the double rate is: 2×4 ushkas. You also get 1 ushka as a tip, so in total: 2×4+1=9 ushkas. The Banker gives you the total amount. Give the four cards back to the Card Manager, who will put them back at the bottom of their respective decks. Finally, choose a new location from the three faced up cards, where you will pick up your next passenger! Now it’s the next player’s turn, you can only move in the following round! The end of the game: When a player has collected 30 (or more) ushkas, you have to finish that round, then count the final result of all the players. The one who has the most ushkas wins. You don’t have to play until 30 ushkas, the goal can be more or less, depending on how long you would like to play. You have to decide on the goal amount before starting the game! Tip: Pay close attention to the map! The placement of the crosswalks is pretty tricky, there are some routes where you can cover big distances and some where you have to stop often! Always try to find the fastest route! Luck cards: EN Traffic jam: you miss a turn. The bus has broken down! People share a taxi so they won’t be late. You can draw another passenger from the deck. The fare is the same, but you get a tip from two passengers! Nighttime fare: you receive the double of the fare. Speeding: You were driving too fast, so your penalty is 1 ushka deduction. Extra luggage:Your passenger has lots of luggage, so you get an extra 1 ushka for your fare. Found objects: You did the right thing and reported the luggage left in your taxi, so you get 2 ushkas as a reward. Figure 1: Calculating the fare from C2 to E4: 5 squares=5 ushkas the sign helps you find the square where your location is light side: pick-up point darker side: destination
