DOGS & HOMES Time goes by so slowly while humans are at work. It’s hard to be a good dog and wait patiently when exciting adventures are waiting outside. It’s easy to slip out the door, but getting home without help might be tricky. Follow the clues in the park and help the strays get home! Contents: 4 little detectives, 1 park, 12 houses, 12 dogs, 16 clue disks, 12 collar disks Ages 5+, 2-4 players, game time approx. 20 minutes Aim of the game: The winner is the player who, using their good memory, can walk around the park the quickest and take the most strayed dogs home to their owners. Preparations: Place the houses around the park in any order you like (three on each side)! This way, the game will always be a varied. Place the clue disks face down on the trees, and the collar disks on the places marked on the board. Finally, each player should choose a little figure and place it in one of the corners of the park. (If there are only two players, then place the figures in opposite corners.) Finally, put the dogs in a pile and place them next to the board. Playing the game: The oldest player starts, then play in a clockwise direction! Move your figures along the path in the park following the clues until you find one of the dogs. The place of the dogs is marked by the collars in the park. Important: there are different patterned spaces (grass, bricks, rocks, sand) in the park and on the clue disks. If the same pattern is shown on the disc and on the field where you stand, you can step forward. The search: Face up a clue disc! What does it show? • The same pattern as on the square where you stand? Well done! Leave the disk face up and take as many steps as the clue disk says, in any direction you like. You can face up another clue disk straight away: search for the same pattern where you are at that moment. (Your turn lasts until you face up right patterns.) • Is it a different pattern? Then, sadly, the clue that you found is not on your path. In this case, you can’t step, it’s the next player’s turn. Important: Before the next player takes their turn, always turn all the clue disks face down! The collar: Did you manage to reach one of the collars with the exact number of steps needed? Wonderful! You have found a strayed dog. Take the disk and one dog from the top of the pile. Look at the color of the dog’s collar and find the house that has a door with the same color! (If you already know how to count, you can find the dog’s house number on its collar.) This is where you will have to take it home when it’s your turn again, but now the next player comes! The way to the house: You can reach the house following the rules stated above, with the difference that you don’t have to arrive using the exact number of steps needed. When you reach the space in front of the house (it is connected to the house with a line), give the dog to its owner - place it on the house. But keep the collar disk until the end of the game, this will show you how many dogs you have taken home. Your turn ends at the house: you can only start searching for another dog in the next turn! Important: You can only take home one dog at a time! If you have already picked up a dog and you are on the way home with it, you can step on the collar spaces, but you can’t pick up a new collar/dog. The end of the game: the game only ends when all the dogs have reached home. The player who has taken the most dogs home – has the most collar disks – wins. If multiple players have the same number of disks, then it’s a shared victory. Game variation: Younger players can play a simpler version of this game. If they find a dog, they don’t have to go to the house, they can place the dog on the house at once.
